Now that you have your wedding date, your venue, and hopefully your photographer, now you can celebrate! Those are the top items on your to-do-list that you can now cross off and breath a little more easily (if you haven’t booked a photographer yet, check out the wedding experience). Onto the more exciting planning, like plan your engagement session! Engagement sessions are an excellent way to get to know your photographer, how they shoot, and how they handle the posing and lighting for your photos. It also helps your photographer get a good grasp on how you two interact with one another, and how to photograph you both. So on your wedding day, your photographer is ready to rock it, and you will feel more relaxed and what to expect because of the practice you had during your engagement session.
When to schedule your engagement session
Your engagement session can be schedules at anytime before your big day, however I suggest booking your session at around 6 months in advance. Some couples like to use these images for their Save-The-Date announcement or the Wedding Invitations, so you’ll want to consider that when it comes to planning your engagement session.
- Winter : 2:30-4:30pm
- Spring: 4:00-6:00pm
- Summer: 6:00-8:00
- Fall: 4:00-6:00
Location Ideas
Once you have a date and time picked for your session, then it’s time to decide the location. Do you like the mountains, or beach, do you like desert or lush greenery? If you can’t think of anywhere specific that you would like to shoot, your photographer can help you decide on a location by giving you several location ideas. You’ll want the location to truly represent you and your fiancé, so really think about what you two genuinely like.
What to wear
Depending on when your session is, and where the session will be, will also help determine what you should wear for your session. Couples can never go wrong with neutral colors, she wearing long flowy skirts/dresses, or him wear light colored pants, only one of you wear a bold color or pattern.
