It may have been chilly for the month of July, but for this couples’ Cambria engagement session, it was picturesque.
How they met
Caitlyn’s teammate, Kourtney, was in the same class as Riley. After Kourtney became friends with him, Caitlyn decided that she herself and Riley needed to meet. Kourtney would constantly tell her “Cate, you’re gunna love this guy, Riley”. They finally were introduced in front of the Humanities building at Bakersfield College and thus their story started.
Favorite Date
Her first trip to Tennessee to visit Riley was like a 4 day long date, and her favorite date. He even made a detailed itinerary of every restaurant he wanted Cailyn to try, and every activity they were going to do which included visiting the largest treehouse in America, bingo night at his favorite bar with friends, and touring the University of Tennessee campus. It was a busy 4 days, but definitely a core memory made with Caitlyn and Riley during their relationship.
The Proposal
New Years Eve they hiked at sunrise on Bishops Peak in San Luis Obispo. Once they reached the top, they sat and just enjoyed the scenery. That’s when Riley felt it was the perfect time to pop the question. She had no idea and was so surprised, but of course she couldn’t wait to say yes!
Cambria Engagement Session
Caitlyn and Riley picked this location in Cambria for their engagement. They have family that live nearby and had fond memories due to that. I got there early and scarfed down some food (if you’re in Cambria, you gotta check out Mainstreet Grill!) and they soon arrived after I was done inhaling my food. The sun was still pretty bright and not many trees near to help diffuse the bright lighting, so we made due with what we had, a beautiful open space near the pacific ocean.
I love shooting in the central coast, the coast line is so much more different than the southern California coastline. As we started working, we moved around a lot to compensate for that harsh lighting and to also wait for the sun to set a little more. As we moved around, we actually almost got into a patch of poison ivy (oops). Thank goodness no one was exposed to it, but pretty darn close. Once that sun started to settle down, these scene totally changed into soft lighting that looked like warm butter across the grassy fields. Caitlyn and Riley’s Cambria Engagement Session was so beautiful, I’d love to do another soon!
