You just got engaged! YAY! So much buzzing is going on in your head, I’m sure, of all the plans you’ve dreamed up can now come to a reality. But where do you even begin? How do you carefully select your wedding vendor team to help bring your dreams comes true and have the wedding of your dreams? Here’s a few tips to get you started in the right direction to accomplish just that!
◊ Choose a coordinator first and why choose one?
These planners have one of the biggest jobs for the wedding. They have to keep everything together, execute your vision beautifully, and be the go to person for everything (to name a few things). Planners are simply a life saver when it comes to planning weddings. A good planner will have not only the experience and knowledge to bring your vision to fruition, but also the patience, resourcefulness, and ability to anticipate your needs, and resolve any potential snags before they even occur (WOW!). I’m sure there are a ton other qualities that make a planner or coordinator simply amazing, but these are just a few things to think about when you’re deciding to bring on a planner or coordinator.
◊ Ask for referrals/recommendations based on work but also personality
Each vendor you talk to has worked with lots of other vendors within the wedding industry. They would be a valuable person to ask for referrals from as they’ve been behind the scenes at weddings and can advise you on not only a talented vendor, but the ones that are amazing to work along side as a vendor.
◊ Choose a venue carefully
There are so many gorgeous venues out there! And sometimes there are rules that go along with venues. So keep in mind, when you’ve found your perfect venue for your wedding, some venues allow only their recommended vendors to work the weddings on property which means you don’t have a say if you don’t mesh with the other vendors for your big day.
◊ Ask your friends who have gotten married in your area, they’ll give you suggestions from first hand experiences
People love to recommend good vendors, so why not use that to your advantage and ask your newly married friends who they’d recommend, why, and what their experience was with the vendors.
◊ Utilize social media
I think most have this one down already. There are so many groups and pages you can turn to to ask for recommendations based on your area.
◊ Look for vendors like DJs, photographers, and videographers who have experience
Experience is important because it will help put you at ease knowing your vendor is seasoned and can adapt to almost any situation. Let’s be real, day of weddings can be unpredictable at times. And it’s very important that the vendors can “go with the flow” as the day progresses without stressing you or other people out.
◊ Hire people whom you genuinely like
There are some vendors you’ll be spending the whole day with, so think about when choosing certain vendors if you could see yourself spending the whole day with that person or team.
◊ Definitely do a consult with each vendor
Consults are amazing because you can get a feel for them on a personal level but also professional level. If they come to the consult looking non-professional, how will be they at the wedding? If they come late, will they be dependable at the wedding?
